Suzi Quatro and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Did they dishonor Suzi Quatro?

Suzi Q came onto the music scene in the 1960s. Releasing major hits like Can the Can, 48 Crash, Wild One and going on to sell over 50 million records worldwide shows that Suzi Quatro is a force to be reckoned with. However it begs the question why isnt Suzi Quatro in the Hall of Fame?

The 1960s and 70s music era was dominated by the first female bass player who became a major rock star taking the world by storm. Even up to now it remains unclear why Suzi Q isnt in the hall of fame. A Rock and Rolll Hall of Fame Female Artists that stands separately may be the best options to honor female rock and roll musicians. Suzi Q paved way for artists like Joan Jett, Tina Weymouth and Cherie Currie to name a few. Suzi Q has been headed towards this venture from the tender age of five as reported in her recently released self-titled documentary. She has regaled talk show hosts telling them about the defining moment when she saw Elvis Presley on television and decided she wanted to be just like him. That’s one of the most amazing things about Suzi. Her sheer determination and perseverance have led to the place where she is now.

Liam Firmager discovered Suzi while she was in a band with her sisters. This meant she had to sacrifice the family band and venture out on her own. There are no hard feelings in present day however one can only imagine how that act made her family feel. Many doors were opened unto her as she saw herself move to London and go on tour promoting her music. In some ways her story translates to how anyone can do anything as long as they put their heart to it. Considering the conservative nature of the world at the time Suzi Q’s success is larger than she is. Talk about a household name. However there is still no recognition of all her hard work in the Rock and Rolll Hall of Fame.

Speculation follows that Suzi Q hall of fame snub is because she had a higher profile overseas. That is to say her music was topping the charts in other countries but not quite doing that well in the USA. Still, fans feel Suzi Q deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or at least erect a Rock and Rolll Hall of Fame Female Artists in commemoration of her breaking the glass ceiling and paving the way for young women who want to be rock stars globally.

Some fans have attributed sexism to be the reason why Suzi Quatro has been snubbed of her deserved award. When Janet Jackson was inducted at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her speech she called for more female inclusion at the Rock and Rolll Hall of Fame. This has been a common feature in award shows over the years. While some women have been awarded over the years, that number is comparatively small to how many men have taken home the majority. Women have had to work extra hard to push through the glass ceiling.

Who knows, perhaps if it wasn’t for her Joan Jett, Cherie Currie and many others would not be where they are today. Even if the Rock and Roll hall of Fame doesnt honor her it’s not the award that matters but the lives she changed and the people she inspired through her music to be where they are today.

Conclusively, Suzi Quatro Hall of Fame award is something the fans and even Suzi Q herself has been long awaiting. Are you a fan of Suzi Q? What is your take on this matter that has been raging on for years? Enjoy the music and rock on!!
